FSSAI License or FSSAI Registration in India is required for the start of an associated business or food-related. This FSSAI License is issued by the Food Safety and Standard Authority Act, 2006. It is the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India as well as State Food Authorities are jointly accountable for the implementation of FSSAI rules. The FSSAI is accountable for the registration and licensing of Food business owners and sets the rules and regulations for any food and related businesses in India

Who can apply and get an FSSAI License in India?


All Food Business operators including small-scale companies must obtain an FSSAI license. Based upon the amount of the company they may choose to get a central, state, or basic license.

Large food manufacturers exporters, importers, and manufacturers who deal in the food industry on a large scale are required to get an FSSAI registration for India by the Central Government. While the smaller and medium-sized businesses transportation, marketers, and traders are required to apply for a state license through authorities of the State government.

Manufacturing units that have a capacity of 2 MT daily dairy units handling as much as 5000 liters each day. Repacking units, relabelling units, catering, canteens, and other businesses regardless of their turnover must apply for an FSSAI State license in India.

All exporters and importers regardless of turnover can apply application for the FSSAI central license. Anyone who is a Food Business operator that is more than the 20-crore limit and plans to operate in more than one state must apply for an FSSAI central license in India.

Notification: With the recently implemented changes, a person who has a Basic FSSAI License can apply for the State or Central License with the same registration number. There's no requirement to submit an additional application for it.

A basis License is mandatory for any annual turnover of lower than Rs.12 lakh.

State License must be obtained if the annual turnover of 12-20 million. If you are repackaging, labeling, or rebranding a business, regardless of the amount of turnover, the company must obtain an official state license.

Central License If the year-long turnover exceeds 20 crores, the food industry should apply for a Central license.

Based on the annual revenue, an operator of a food business is required to obtain an FSSAI License. Therefore, it is essential to obtain an FSSAI License before commencing with the business because there are specific penalties and legal fees if the FSSAI rules have become stricter.
